AN EAGLE, flying down from his perch on a lofty rock, seized upon a lamb and carried him aloft in his talons. A Jackdaw, who witnessed the capture of the lamb, was stirred with envy and determined to emulate the strength and flight of the Eagle. He flew around with a great whir of his wings and settled upon a large ram, with the intention of carrying him off, but his claws became entangled in the ram's fleece and he was not able to release himself, although he fluttered with his feathers as much as he could. The shepherd, seeing what had happened, ran up and caught him. He at once clipped the Jackdaw's wings, and taking him home at night, gave him to his children. On their saying, "Father, what kind of bird is it?' he replied, "To my certain knowledge he is a Daw; but he would like you to think an Eagle."
There's an embarrassment of riches on the App Store when it comes to licensed Games Workshop games. But that doesn't mean that there isn't space for another one. Which is good, because I saw two today. One of them is The Horus Heresy Legions. It's a card game that owes a decent amount to Hearthstone. But it's more than that. Built from the ground up as a mobile game, it's sharper, its play time is shorter, and there's a ferocity to it that fits in with its grim dark grim grim dark future setting.I only got to play it for a few minutes, but that was enough to get a feel for it. It's a deck-builder, with characters lifted from the Horus Heresy books. If you're not familiar with those, a really bad thing happens and everything gets more awful. There's more to it than that, but it doesn't really matter.Legions of doomThe game would work if it didn't have the GW branding, but it adds a thuggish stomp to play. There are space marines, there are chaos space marines. There's a lot of fighting. A campaign walks you through some of the battles that made up the conflict. Then there's online play. That's where the meat of the game is. You can join clans, called Lodges here, and there are events that let you change the content that the game is going to receive. If one side comes at the top of an event leaderboard, then different cards and decks will be available than if the other wins. There's a lot of good ideas here, and the game gets the feel of the grungy spaceships and war torn planets just right. There's a hefty blob of stragtegy too, with plenty of different cards and potential deck combinations to play with.Killing timeLegions feels like a game that gets both the platform it's being built for, and the people who are going to be playing it. The addition of GW's rich lore is just the icing on the cake. Even if you're not a fan, the card chucking underneath everything is good enough that it's unlikely it's going to matter. There are plenty of Games Workshop games on the App Store. But this one feels like it's going to more than earn its place among them.

A HUNTSMAN, returning with his dogs from the field, fell in by chance with a Fisherman who was bringing home a basket well laden with fish. The Huntsman wished to have the fish, and their owner experienced an equal longing for the contents of the game-bag. They quickly agreed to exchange the produce of their day's sport. Each was so well pleased with his bargain that they made for some time the same exchange day after day. Finally a neighbor said to them, "If you go on in this way, you will soon destroy by frequent use the pleasure of your exchange, and each will again wish to retain the fruits of his own sport."
Captain Jim's tea proved to be nectar. He was pleased as a child with Anne's compliments, but he affected a fine indifference.
If you were hoping to see Fallout 76 eventually come to Nintendo Switch, you’re about to be quite disappointed. Bethesda announced at PAX Aus this weekend that the upcoming multiplayer entry in the Fallout series is just not doable on the Switch. While Bethesda has shown a clear dedication to the Switch, bringing quite a few of its properties to the device, including Wolfenstein: The New Colossus; Doom; and Skyrim, Fallout 76 simply won’t work on Nintendo’s flagship console. Bethesda’s Pete Hines explained during a panel:"The Switch is something I can say with certainty that... it's a part of every conversation with every dev we have now about what we're doing going forward, because we consider it to be a viable platform. If the game will work on it, we want it to be on every platform possible. Fallout 76 is not because it just wasn't doable."
